Art for Memory- Show at the Wellington Art Society
At the beginning of January, there was a call to artists from the Wellington Art Society titled Art for Memory. The theme explored the aging brain, memory loss, and neurodegenerative diseases.
I immediately thought of an idea that had been sitting on the back burner of my to-do list. When I don’t initiate a project myself, I often feel a sense of apprehension. There’s a fear of failure—of not being able to fully bring my vision to life.
During the last six months of her life, my mother cared for my aging grandmother. It was a demanding commitment, both physically and emotionally. While our family contributed in every way we could, my mother was the person my Abuela needed most during that transition.
This piece became a tribute to my Abuela Chila. I’m incredibly proud of the work and deeply grateful for the recognition it received. Being awarded “People’s Choice” by my peers and the Wellington Art Society made the experience even more meaningful.
